All pizzas can be accessorized and there are some such as the Ultimate Italian, the New Yorker and so forth. You can order a half which is four pieces or a whole which is eight slices. The pie is in a rectangular sheet pan w/ sides and then baked to perfection (IMHO). The cheese is put on the dough first followed by the sauce. It is a perfect accompaniment to the sweeter tomato sauce. I donât know what that is but it is stretchy and somewhat tart. The dough gets a double rise which when baked makes it an airy but well structured. The first time I ate Detroit Style Pizza, I fell in love. Early on I quickly learned that Jersey wasnât the only pizza that locals areproud of, there are many of them out there. So I am jaded and abit of a snob when it comes to pizza pie as we North Newarkerâs called it growing up.Fast forward and I marry a Detroiter and there are trips to his home state visiting in-laws and friends to celebrate (graduations and weddings) and mourn (hospitalizations and deaths). There is all kinds: brick oven, coal oven, wood fired, and the corner pizza restaurant. The whole NY/NJ area is full of establishments boasting of the âbest pizzaâ. Until a year ago I hailed from the lovely Garden State.
